What Jewellery Photography Requires
Fine jewellery is among the most technically demanding subjects in commercial photography. Polished metal surfaces create reflections that must be managed precisely. Faceted gemstones refract and scatter light in ways that require a thorough understanding of how to render colour, depth, and brilliance without overexposure or loss of detail.
At Wood Workshop, every jewellery shoot is built around accurate representation of the object — its material character, craftsmanship, and visual presence — combined with the commercial quality required for brand use across digital, print, ecommerce, and editorial channels.

Approach to Lighting and Retouching
Lighting for jewellery is built from first principles for each piece. There is no single formula — a ring with a pavé setting requires different handling from a solitaire, and a yellow gold bracelet requires different consideration from white metal. The goal in each case is to render the object as it appears at its best: true to material, clear in construction detail, and visually compelling for commercial use.
Post-production is carried out to remove any surface dust, minor handling marks, or technical artefacts — while preserving the natural character of the metal and stones. Images are delivered as clean, final files ready for use without additional correction.

Working with Hong Kong Clients
For clients based in Hong Kong, shoots can be arranged in a rented studio space or on-site at your own premises — showroom, boutique, or office. On-site sessions are well-suited to larger collections, high-value pieces that are better not transported, or clients who prefer to oversee the shoot directly.
Working with International Clients
Wood Workshop regularly works with jewellery brands and designers based overseas — including in the UK, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand. The typical process is straightforward: ship your pieces to Sam in Hong Kong, he photographs them, and delivers finished images to you digitally. Pre-shoot briefing is handled remotely and no travel is required on your part.
Previous Jewellery Clients
Wood Workshop has photographed jewellery for Anabela Chan, TSL Jewellery, Prince Jewellery & Watch, and WH Jewellery, producing work for ecommerce, campaign, and editorial use.
